 About Gabriela Bornstein

Brazilian-born and New York-based, Gabriela is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores identity, ancestry, and human connection through layered, mixed media compositions. Rooted in her multicultural heritage—Indigenous, Black, and White—she bridges personal memory with collective history, drawing inspiration from both Brazil and New York City.

Tropical Surrealism & Other Stories

Her Tropical Surrealism series reimagines ancestral memory and Afro-Indigenous culture through vibrant, dreamlike scenes that confront the legacy of colonization and environmental injustice. In the Generation Series, Gabriela turns inward to reflect on motherhood, loss, and lineage, honoring the women who shaped her life.

Her NYC Underground Portrait Series captures intimate moments with strangers on the subway, transforming them into portraits and wearable art that celebrate empathy and diversity.

Across each body of work, Gabriela creates a powerful dialogue between past and present—an invitation to remember, connect, and see the beauty in our shared humanity.
