@afrocentrickeyy

Afrocentric Keyy brings unconventional eco-conscious art to life by creating unique oil paintings on recycled wood promoting beauty, power, and realness. By re-purposing wood materials I am able to turn “trash into treasure” creating distinctive Black portraits fused with animal and floral counterparts. As a Black female artist, I aspire to create spaces that evoke emotion and start conversations around art and visual representation of those from the African, Black / African American, and Afro-Caribbean diaspora. Generating a two-way engagement, involving visual interaction and Black women. The different aspects of my work– the scale, choice of using recycled exposed wood, oil paint, or fluidity of nature alongside women– provokes the viewer to explore the portrait. I create a space to see the unseen - I go beyond the exterior to amplify voices and perspectives that have been nuanced. This is Afrocentric Keyy.

Featured Work:

Look Out (2019) | Oil paint on recycled wood and resin | $3,500

Look Out is a visual reminder to always be on the "Look out" for the good, bad, and indifferent times approaching you. Created during a time that I was both experiencing some of my highest artist highs (at the moment) while also faced with new challenges I had yet come to terms with. I learned in creating this piece that life always has a funny way of showing you your own truth even when you think you have everything planned out to your expectations.

Golden Ration (2022) | Oil paint on recycled wood | $2,000

The most beautiful number in the universe will always be the "Golden Ration". It can be seen both visually and numerically in all ways of life, from geometry to the human body — it lays down the foundation to what it means to be eternal.
