 About Mamaroneck Artists Guild

Founded in 1953 in the backyard barn of local artist Grace Huntley Pugh, the Mamaroneck Artists Guild (MAG) began when seven local artists—Ruth Connery, Allen Glicksman, Hugh Gumpel, Grace Carr Gurwitz, Alice Neaman, Grace Huntley Pugh, and George Russin—organized life-drawing sessions by bringing models from the Art Students League in New York to Mamaroneck. By 1955, the growing Guild had expanded to 30 members and 100 patrons and established its first rented space, known as the Art Barn, on Prospect Avenue. Over the decades, MAG has continued to evolve, relocating to several locations in Mamaroneck and Larchmont, including 2120 Boston Post Road for over ten years, before moving in fall 2008 to 126 Larchmont Avenue. After temporarily closing its physical gallery during the COVID-19 pandemic and operating online, the Guild reopened in August 2021 at its current light-filled gallery at 1987 Palmer Avenue in Larchmont. Today, MAG is a vibrant not-for-profit organization representing more than 150 artists from Westchester County and surrounding communities, dedicated to promoting an interest in art, supporting artists, and enriching the community through exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations, workshops, and educational programs. Open Tuesday through Saturday, the gallery presents rotating exhibitions approximately every three weeks, including group shows, juried exhibitions, awards shows, student and solo exhibitions, while also offering life-drawing sessions, children’s workshops, professional development opportunities, and community programs throughout the year, staying true to its original mission while continuing to grow and adapt.
