Kevin Miserocchi, the Trustee of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation, looked through the work Suzanne Heilmann was preparing for a gallery opening and saw similarities between Charles Addams’ works on paper and Ms. Heilmann’s three-dimensional work. They agreed that the premise of pairing these works would make for an interesting exhibit and decided on “COMPLEMENTS.” As artists, Charles Addams and Suzanne Heilmann have a whimsical and mysterious aspect to their art that complement each other in a unique way. Kevin and Suzanne collaborated, finding the perfect Addams’ cartoons that would pair well with the art Suzanne had already created. Only two or three of Suzanne’s pieces were made specifically for this exhibit. The similarities are quite surprising considering that the subject matter and execution of the art is so vastly different.
COMPLEMENTS: Charles Addams & Suzanne Heilmann, is provocative, whimsical, witty, and spotlights the serendipitous creations of two powerfully inventive minds. Art imitating art, without knowing it.
