WORKSHOP Make a Story Workshop

Inspired by Maureen's original stories, kids will be guided to create their own story and illustrate it. A perfect way to sharpen listening skills and visual translation. Helps develop creative writing and creative thinking through storytelling and drawing. Supplies will be provided.

Creative Writing for with Maureen Amaturo
Ages 8-12
Mondays, 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Session #1: 8 classes beginning January 25
Session #2: 8 classes beginning April 12

Develop writing skills and story telling talent. Budding authors will learn how to break through writer’s block and turn ideas into captivating tales. Students learn the art of creating a short story and/or poem. You will be guided to complete a short story and a poem by the end of class and illustrate your story and design a book cover. Grammar skill and writing techniques will be reinforced.

NEW! The Art of Writing with Maureen Amaturo
Ages 12 and up
Mondays, 5:00 – 6:30 pm

Discover a new artistic talent with just your imagination and language. Learn to break through writer’s block and use words the way a painter uses color. During our six classes together, you’ll explore the key elements of creating a strong story and learn to develop your skills at inventing story ideas, characters, conflicts and plots, point of view, dialogue, the importance of using vivid description, and editing. Complete a short story by the end of the session. Bring lined paper and pencils/pens or a laptop.

WORKSHOP Commercials, Ads & Fads: Writing for packages, boxes & bags!
Ages 9 & up
Saturdays, 1:00 - 3:00 pm
WORKSHOP: March 20

Create the words, product name, advertising and packaging that sells the product. Students can create promotions for real products or their own inventions. We’ll talk about the real-life jobs that bring familiar slogans to the public and learn how to use creativity with everyday items. Students will create a product, ad and packaging during our workshop. Materials provided.

Everyone has a story to tell, and no two are the same. Memoirs are a popular phenomenon and today appear in magazines and bookstores, and even on best-seller lists. Learn how to create your life story and apply the basic skills of fiction–dimensional characters, plot, vivid description, dialogue, setting, and pacing. Learn to uncover memories, rely on your instincts, sharpen your storytelling skills. Whether you’re interested in creating an important family keepsake or aiming to be published, this class will provide your foundation for finding your voice.

Explore expressions in prose, haiku, and rhyme. Learn to hear the rhythm in words. Sharpen your senses to create the most effect by saying the least. Hone your sense of language to convey just the right emotion. No previous writing experience necessary. Surprise yourself with what you create.
